EYELINER

Eye Liner

Wide-apart eyes :

It tends to give your face an open, youthful appearance. This look can be intensified by applying the strongest eye makeup effects near the outer corner of the eye. Keep shadow uniform and within outer corners. Brush lashes straight up.

To make the eyes appear closer together,

Use more intense eye shadow colours near the inner corner of the eyes.
Line eyes completely – top and bottom – from inner to outer corners.
Apply a medium-toned shadow tolids and creases, concentrating the colour on the inner corners.
Use mascara generously, on both upper and lower lashes.

Close-set eyes : This eye have a dramatic, sultry look. It can be enhanced by concentrating colour near the eye's inner corners. Extend smoky shadow beyond outer corners to exaggerate them. Brush lashes out.

To make the eyes seem farther apart,

Apply the most intense colour near the outer corners of the eyes.
Line top and bottom of eyes in any colour, but begin drawing a quarter of the way out from the inner eye.
Smudge lines.
Dust a highlighter (or light-coloured eyeshadow) just below the outer corners of lower lashes to call attention to the outsides of eyes.
Brush mascara on to upper and lower lashes.

Evenly spaced eyes :

These are about an eye's distance apart. They can be made to look special with many eye makeup looks.

Almond eyes : These are the most common eye shape with their upswept lift at the outer corner. These eyes calls for creativity. These eyes can be made to look deeper and more intense.

Small eyes :

They are proportionately smaller in comparison to the rest of the facial features. To enhance small eyes line upper and lower (never inside). Use pale, shimmery, eye shadow. Curl lashes.

To enlarge small eyes

Apply a medium-toned shadow (such as soft grey or blue) to the crease.
Use a soft-coloured liner (try taupe) on the top and bottom lash lines, extending the top line across the entire lash line and the bottom line from just under the iris to the outer corner.
Sweep black mascara on upper lashes.
Apply light shadow on the eyelids.
Apply more intense shades in the creases.
Add lift to the outer corners.

Prominent eyes : These eyes which set far forward in the face tend to dominate the facial features. The eyelids are too pronounced. Medium to deep shades of shadow on the lids help to minimize their appearance. Liners applied to the lash bases from corner to corner gives prominent eyes a smoldering and mysterious look.

Hooded eyes :

These eyes are set so the natural crease in the eyelid is not readily seen. Highlighting the brow bone and lining the lash base gives hooded eyes an alluring shape.

To enhance hooded eyes

Apply a medium to dark shadow on the crease and hooded area.
Sweep a lighter shadow on the brow bone and on the inside corner of the eye.
Draw a very thin line along the top lash line (to keep the eye looking open) and smudge
with a cotton swab.
Apply black mascara to upper lashes.
Line upper lash-line only. Gradually soften shadow as you approach the brow.

Deep-set eyes : This seem to recede, need to be brought forward. The eyelid crease is set back so the area from the base of lashes to brow bone seems hidden. To enhance the deep-set eyes line upper and lower lids (never just upper). Choose light shadows -pale pink, peach or beige- of eye shadow. More intense shading on the brow bone also gives the eyes prominence.

Oriental eyes :

These eyes have a distinctive lift at the corner and have very little lid. The depth of the eyes can increase by deep shades of eye shadow and the dimension can be increased by applying eyeliner as close as possible to the lash base.

Eyebrow Map

(a great tip for after you read these three steps if you are unsure of where to tweeze, is to get a white pencil and apply it to the area you want to tweeze so that you can clearly see the shape you are going to have.)

1. To find where your brow begins hold a pencil very carefully vertically against the side of the nose. This should line up with the beginning of the eye, the eraser nearest the nostril and the point nearest the brow. Tweeze excess hair that extends beyond the pencil over toward the nose. Excess hair towards the nose tends to make your eyes look close together.

2. Now keep the eraser end in place and move the top point toward the temple stopping diagonally at the point above the outside edge of the iris of your eye. This is where the arch of your brow should begin. Being sure not to make the brows too thin, tweeze away excess hairs beneath the arch.

3. Once again keeping the eraser in place, move the pencil point to the outside corner of the eye. This is where you want your eyebrows to stop. Tweeze hairs that extend beyond the point where the pencil meets the brow. If your eyebrows grow past that point it tends to make your eyes go down. At this stopping point it helps to lift your eyes up. The same is for the arch. The arch helps to lift and open your eyes.

Small Eyes

1. Use a light-colored shadow on the inner half of the eye starting from the lashes to the brow.

2. Apply a medium shadow to the crease concentrating on the outer half of the eye.

3. Apply eyeliner on outer half of the eye closest to the lashes.

4. Apply a highlighter under the arch of the brow. You can also use a white pencil in the inner lower or upper rims, this can help to open up your eyes.

5. Keep your eyebrows groomed and shaped. A light thinner eyebrow for small eyes will help to open the eyes up.

Wide-Set Eyes

1. Apply a light to medium shade from lash to brow.

2. Place a medium or dark shadow near the eyes' inner corners continuing out toward the temples.

3. Extend the liner all the way to the inner corner of the eye closest to the lashes.

4. Then applying mascara concentrate on the center lashes.

Deep-Set Eyes

1. Use a light shade from lash to brow.

2. Place a medium contour color just above the crease and blend upward.

3. Dot highlighter on inner corners of eyes.

4. When applying eyeliner stay as close to the lash line as possible. Less is best with deep-set eyes.

5. Apply mascara to upper and lower lashes and comb through with metal lash comb, lash groomer or deluxe spooly mascara brush.

Close-Set Eyes

1. Apply a light color shadow on the inner half of the upper lid from lash to brow.

2. Extend a medium shade on outer half of the eyelid towards hairline and blend well.

3. Begin lining the eye at the inner corner extending a touch beyond the outer edge.

4. Dot highlighter in the inner corner of the eye.

5. Apply mascara to upper lashes and lower if desired. If you use mascara on lower lashes use only on outer few.

Round Eyes

1. Use a light tone shadow from lash to brow.

2. Use a dark shadow in the crease.

3. Line only outer half of the eye and extend liner out and up at the ends.

4. Mascara for top lashes only concentrating on outer half.

Bulging or Puffy Eyes

1. Use a highlighter shade in the inner corners of the eyes.

2. Use a dark matte shadow in the crease of the eye (wherever it is bulging or puffy).

3. Extend eyeliner along the lashes going from the inner corner to the outer corner. If you prefer use a dark eye pencil in the inner lid rim. Never use the pencil under lower lashes. It will accentuate the bulging of the eye.

4. Emphasize upper lashes with mascara especially the outer lashes. Use very little or no mascara on lower lashes.

Droopy Eyelids

1. Use a light shadow along the inner half of your upper lid.

2. Use a dark matte shadow where your lid begins to droop extending to the outer half of lid.

3. Dot highlighter under the inner edge of brows.

4. Line from the inner top edge to pupil of your eye. Be careful that you do not take eyeliner to the end of the eye, as this will emphasize the droopiness.

5. Apply mascara to upper lashes.

Turned Down Eye

1. We recommend you start with the eyeliner to visually lift the outer corners of your eyes. Begin the line at the inner corner of lash line just past the pupil, and then sweep up and out. Draw a line on the lower lashes that parallels the top lid sweeping it up and out.

2. Apply medium-toned shadow over the whole lid.

3. Place a contour shade in the crease following your eyeliner as your guide. Be careful that the contour and liner do not meet at the outer corner.

4. Apply your highlighter under the brow's arch.

5. Use eyelash curler first then apply mascara to outer upper lashes only.

Mature or Crepey Eyes

1. Apply a light to medium shade over entire lid.

2. If you would like to apply a contour color this is a good time to use a matte creame-based shadow because it is very difficult to apply a powder coloration on less than supple skin.

3. Apply eyeliner along the lash line with the line growing a bit thicker toward the outer part of the eye. It is very important with a mature eye to blend correctly. We recommend a large sponge brush to blend colorations smoothly, especially if you have difficulty with your vision.

4. Apply a light coat of mascara on upper lashes if desired.

Vanishing Lids

1. Apply a light or medium toned shadow from lash line to the brow bone.

2. Concentrate deep, darker, neutral tones just above the crease. When applying color feather lightly towards the brow.

3. When applying eyeliner stay right at the lash line with a light hand. You do not want a thick line. It should be a very fine line.

4. Add a highlighter on the brow bone.

5. Curl lashes to help open up the eye. Now apply mascara to the top lashes only.

Almond Shaped Eyes

1. Apply a light shade from lash line to the brow.

2. Apply a medium contour shade on the lid.

3. Next use a darker shadow on the outer corner of the lid and blend well.

4. Line the eyes if desired closest to the lash line as possible top and bottom.

5. Apply mascara top and bottom and comb well.

If at least two of the following apply to you, it may be time to look on the bright side:

You were blonde(ish) as a child. "If your hair was fair when you were small, especially by summer's end, you probably have the right skin tone to pull off blonde as an adult," says Brad Johns, global color director for Clairol (who has colored Natasha Richardson's hair).

You can afford regular maintenance. "Being blonde is not cheap," says Johns. "Think of blonde hair as the ultimate accessory — the one you never take off! You must keep it in excellent shape with regular touch-ups and proper products."

You're okay being a man magnet. "It's no coincidence that blonde is the most popular hair color in Los Angeles — where it's all about getting noticed," says Jennifer J (Cate Blanchett is a client). Johns adds, "I can assure you it's the shade men prefer."

How to be the best blonde:
1. Keep it cool when coloring at home. "If you elect to lighten your hair on your own, opt for a cool or neutral shade rather than something warm [often marked 'golden' or 'honey']," says Julia Youssef, executive director of L'Oréal Paris's Hair Color Technical Center and Product Evaluation. "Lightening naturally warms up your hair; if you choose a warm-colored dye, you may end up too [orangey] gold."

2. Avoid alcohol. "Bottle blondes may suffer from dry, dull hair, and using products that contain high amounts of alcohol can make the problem worse," says Johnathan Gale, a colorist at the Sally Hershberger for John Frieda Salon in Los Angeles (he's responsible for Charlize Theron's gilded locks). Common alcohol-containing culprits: hairspray, gel, and mousse; check the label.

3. Leave the whitening to your teeth. "Many women equate cool, white strands with elegance," says Johns, "but the reality is that having overly platinum hair can leave you looking tired." A better approach? Ask your colorist to create a golden base, then add cooler highlights.

4. Let a pro handle the hard stuff. "If you want to take your color more than two shades lighter than your natural hue, visit a salon," says Jennifer J. Attempting a job this delicate yourself is risky — and you may end up more banana than honey-blonde.

5. Have a few tricks up your sleeve. Inevitably, there will be times when you need to get to the salon but just can't spare the time or money. Rather than surrendering to long, dark roots, try this trick from Jennifer J: To combat visible roots, pick up a box of dark, ash-blonde hair color at the drugstore. Apply it carefully to just your roots with a toothbrush and leave it on for no longer than three minutes. This will take the edge off dark roots and will buy you a few more weeks sans salon.

Peach tones are universally flattering to blondes, says Dorf.

If you opt for red lips, keep them sheer and limit the hue to evenings, says Dorf.

Kleuren die je haarkleur aanvullen

De meeste van nature roodharigen zullen al een idee hebben welke kleuren hun haar en gelaatskleur kunnen aanvullen. Als je je haar echter recent gekleurd hebt, dan zou het kunnen dat sommige stukken uit je garderobe botsen met je nieuwe kleur en je er vaal doen uitzien. Oproep aan alle roodharigen: lees onderstaande tips om uit te vinden welke kleuren passen bij jouw haarkleur.

Als je écht rood haar of koperkleurig haar hebt
Je zal vermoedelijk een ivoren, gele of gouden ondertoon in je huid hebben als één van deze roodtinten jouw natuurlijke kleur is of je hebt voor een kleuring gekozen die jouw tint aanvult. Je hebt wellicht bruine, hazelkleurige, groene of helderblauwe ogen en mogelijk sproetjes. Natuurlijke en aardtinten zoals beige, bruin, camel, donkergroen en olijfgroen, oranjerood en goud staan je goed, terwijl grijs, taupe, purper, marine, roze of helderrood waarschijnlijk niet zo goed bij jou zullen passen.

De ‘universele kleur’ zwart kan je gezicht vaal maken, dus kies je deze kleur beter voor truien, broeken en accessoires dan dicht bij je gezicht. Heb je een zwarte jurk, dan kan een jasje of een sjaal in één van bovenstaande kleuren je gezicht nog steeds doen stralen.

Als je aardbeiblond of licht roodbruin haar hebt
Je zal vermoedelijk perzik of gouden ondertonen in je huid hebben en groene of blauwe ogen als je één van deze haarkleuren hebt (of ervoor hebt gekozen). Warm grijs staan je goed, maar blauwachtig en donkergrijs, pruim en wijnkleuren zullen niet zo goed passen bij je tint.

Vloeken of niet vloeken
Er schijnt een debat aan de gang te zijn of roodharigen nu al dan niet kleuren die vloeken met hun haar, zoals roze en purper, zouden moeten dragen. Ik heb ontdekt dat lichtroze goed kan passen bij donkerder roodharigen van wie de kleur niet ál te koperachtig is. Als het lichterroze dichter bij het gezicht is, dan kunnen ze ook een volledig roze outfit aanvullen met een trui die meer inténs roze is bijvoorbeeld. Het is aan jezelf om uit te maken of je voor de grote vloek wil gaan en rood haar wil combineren met een topje of sweater in een heldere of diepe nuance van roze. Je zal zéker de aandacht trekken!

Zeer donkere, gedempte purpertinten en lila kunnen ook samengaan met rood haar, alhoewel ze overwegend zullen passen bij het aardbeiblonde en licht roodbruine type dat hierboven beschreven zijn.

Maak hen groen van jaloezie
Er schijnt tenminste één aanvullende schakering van groen te bestaan voor zo ongeveer elke tint van rood haar. Groen is zéér veelzijdig en past goed bij haast elke roodharige – waarbij je moet in acht nemen dat hoe lichter de tint van je haar is, hoe lichter het groen dat je zou moeten kiezen moet zijn. Warmere groentinten passen bij warmere tinten.

Je kan ook je kleurtype bepalen (lente, zomer, herfst of winter) en dat combineren met bovenstaande tips om de kleuren te bepalen waaruit moet gekozen worden. Als je écht een kleur verkiest dat niet zo goed bij je haar past, draag het dan zover mogelijk ván het gezicht of neem een accessoire in dit kleur – schoenen, handtassen, ceinturen …

Kleuren Combineren

Eén van de méést voorkomende problemen die mensen hebben met hun garderobe bestaat erin te weten welke kleuren samengaan. Zal deze blauwe blouse passen bij deze oranje trui? Kan ik mijn kastanjebruine Capribroek koppelen aan een gele blouse? (Voor de duidelijkheid, het antwoord op bovenstaande vragen is “Nee” en “Nee”.) Voor het concept van kleuren samenvoegen hebben sommige mensen totáál géén aanleg, terwijl anderen er een soort zesde zintuig voor blijken te hebben.
Alhoewel, het idee achter kleurcoördinatie is eenvoudig: kleuren hebben natuurlijke banden die hen ofwel versterken ofwel verzachten. Dit is gebaseerd op het kleurwiel – de grafische voorstelling van de manier waarop kleuren gevormd worden – en eens je het kleurwiel begrijpt, wordt het combineren en samenvoegen van kleuren in behaaglijke gehelen een makkie. Wel, eigenlijk misschien niet zó’n makkie, maar alvast héél wat minder geheimzinnig.

Het Kleurwiel:

Elk kleur kan gesplitst worden in combinaties van twee van de drie primaire kleuren, plus lichtheid en donkerheid, die de intensiteit of zwakheid van een kleur weerspiegelen. De drie basiskleuren - de primaire kleuren – zijn rood, blauw en geel. De toevoeging van licht en donker geven ons schakeringen van het blauw van een roodborstei, lichtroze, en botergeel tot lazuursteenblauw, bloedrood en zonnebloemgeel. Het is op basis van deze primaire kleuren dat alle andere kleuren gevormd worden.
Wanneer je om het even welke twee primaire kleuren vermengt in evenredige verhouding, dan bekom je een secundair kleur. Rood en blauw samen geeft violet. Een mix van blauw en geel geeft groen. Door geel en rood te mengen, bekom je oranje. Licht of donker toevoegen aan deze kleuren geeft eveneens verschillende kleurresultaten.
Tertiaire kleuren worden bekomen door een secundair kleur te vermengen met zijn aangrenzend primair kleur. Zo kan bijvoorbeeld groen gemengd worden met blauw of geel om er blauwgroen of geelgroen van te maken; oranje kan je mengen met rood of geel om roodoranje of geeloranje te vormen; en violet kan gecombineerd worden met blauw en rood voor blauwviolet en roodviolet. Door de hoeveelheden primaire kleuren aan te passen aan de niveaus van helderheid of donkerheid, kan je om het even welk kleur uit ons universum creëren.
Het is belangrijk om op zijn minst de basisbegrippen van het kleurwiel onder de knie te hebben vooraleer je kleuren gaat samenvoegen, want zo begrijp je de verhouding tussen deze kleuren. Eens je de verwantschap tussen de kleuren begrijpt, zal je beter in staat zijn om te bepalen hoe goed deze kleuren zullen passen wanneer ze met elkaar gecombineerd worden.

Zwart dragen Bij welke gelegenheid draagt u zwart? Altijd en overal , want zwart is naast wit de meest veelzijdige en neutrale kleur. En wat niet onbelangrijk is: zwart werkt enorm afslankend.

Zwart, kleur van rouw … zwart, voor wie het wat pikanter wil … zwart, om anoniem in de massa te verdwijnen en overal aanvaard te worden … zwart, soms ook om op te vallen, als statement … zwart, voor het dagdagelijkse gemak … zwart, voor zijn elegantie en geraffineerdheid ... kortom, de lijst is eindeloos ...

Zwart past bij elk type vrouw, het is gewoon een kwestie van mooi combineren.

Hieronder vindt u per type een korte beschrijving van hoe zwart voor u het best uitkomt.

•Het wintertype. Hebt u een normale tot donkere huid en zwarte of donkere haren? Dan bent u volgens specialisten een sterk, diep en donker type. Een wintertype staat geweldig met zwart. Eenvoudig, puur en simpel: zwart op zijn best.

•Het lentetype. Hebt u lichtblonde haren met goudglans, sproetjes en is uw huid perzikkleurig? Met zwart alleen ziet u er dan misschien wat bleekjes uit, maar met de juiste combinatie straalt u gewoon. Draag zwarte kledij samen met lichte sieraden of met een sjaaltje in een lichte kleur.

•Het zomertype. U hebt een asblonde tot donkerbruine haarkleur en een koele, matroze huidskleur zonder sproeten. Draag bij zwart zilveren sieraden en koele kleuren,Die staan u het mooist!
•Het herfsttype. Het herfsttype heeft rode tot donkerbruine haren, een goudgele huidskleur en is warm, goudkleurig en glanzend. Bij zwart passen hier het best matgouden sieraden en warme kleuren.
